Safety & Security Interactions

Within increasingly complex and interconnected environments such as security-critical urban infrastructures, also the concepts of safety and security become increasingly interwoven. Consider for example a cybersecurity attack targeted at a hospital. The encryption or manipulation of patient data can then actively impact the patients’ safety and well-being.

The Security, Privacy and Society Group analyes current and upcoming safety-security interactions and related challenges such as arising from goal conflicts. The aim is to develop human-centered solutions to address challenges and to bridge potential gaps between safety and security to tackle challenges holistically.
